Praised for its “breathtaking intonation and stunning musicality,” The Choral Scholars has established itself as one of West Michigan’s premiere chamber ensembles. With repertoire spanning a variety of sacred and secular genres, the group has performed in concert series and festivals throughout the region, as well as giving giving several of its own concerts each year.

The members of The Choral Scholars all currently live and work in West Michigan, and are involved with several other community ensembles. To date, the group has released two full-length recordings: Gaudeamus (2007) and Sing Joyfully (2014), as well as two recordings with the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship: Global Songs for Worship (2010) and Cry Out to God! (2012).

The current ensemble grew out of a quartet of hired section leaders (called “choral scholars”) in the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church choir. Since their debut in the St. Mark’s Concert Series in 2005, they have performed as part of several local concert series, collaborated with the Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Chorus, given full concerts of their own around West Michigan, and sung as the featured guests at a variety of other events around the region.
